Name This Thing

what is the name of this vehicle.jpg"I have seen just a few of these around the West BIAP [Baghdad International Airport] area recently," writes DW, who's working in Baghdad. "What can you tell us about 'em?"

I've seen the vehicles, too. And I read about the things online. But, right now, I'm completely blanking on what I've seen and read.

Anyone wanna chip in here?

UPDATE 9:57 AM: That didn't take long. In the comments, LauraN makes a positive ID on our mystery vehicle. The APC-1 (or, if you prefer, "The Rock") from Granite Global Services is a Ford F 550 pickup, modified for war zones. Check out its specs and pics.

Looks like a '39 Packard.

Its a 'Rock'. WWW.GraniteGlobalServices.com it is an incredible vehicle! Does 80 mph and is better than any crappy Suburbhan or hardened rubbish on the road. I got to drive one, they are well balanced and fast a real threat to their competition. They are now building with mine seats, I saw one recently with them fitted. They beat anything on the road in Iraq. The gun port windows are 6 inch dia. You can fire a cannon out of them. And one recently ignored a hit from an IED. It did not even wobble. As for the comment that it would roll 'No I tried to do that, it hugs the road'. Best piece of hardware on the road now. Heard they are sending some to Afganistan and Sudan.

It looks like you could stick a propeller on the back and have a one man sub
