New Tech Behind NSA Snoop Case?

wiretap.jpgThere’s more to the NSA domestic spying case than the current storyline — that much is clear. The idea that the Bush Administration needed to bypass the courts to get wiretaps quickly makes no sense; under the current system, you can start eavesdropping, and get a warrant later. The notion that disclosing the surveillance would somehow tip off potential terrorists is laughable, too; Al Qaeda types know they’re being monitored.

That’s all assuming, of course, that the wiretaps in this case are the same as in any other. But maybe they’re not. Maybe there’s something different about this surveillance. It could be in its scope, as Laura suggests. But I’m guessing — and this is just a guess — that the real difference is in the technology of the wiretaps themselves.

Look at what former senator Bob Graham (D-Fla.), who was briefed on the eavesdropping program, told the Washington Post:

“I came out of the room with the full sense that we were dealing with a change in technology but not policy,” Graham said, with new opportunities to intercept overseas calls that passed through U.S. switches.

Or what New York Times editor Bill Keller had to say about the paper’s year-long delay in breaking the story:

In the course of subsequent reporting we satisfied ourselves that we could write about this program — withholding a number of technical details — in a way that would not expose any intelligence-gathering methods or capabilities that are not already on the public record.

So maybe the NSA wiretaps were using a new kind of capability; one that terror suspects might not have know about; one that might have even made the FISA court uncomfortable, somehow.

It’s a lot of mights and maybes, I know. But the current threads of this story are so thin, it’s time to start considering some alternatives.

This is definite abuse of government power, and the government will not easily give up the new powers. The government was not usually turned down in the past when it applied for warrants. I percieve this as a one-step-closer to blatant civil rights trampling.

Anyone can knock down a house of cards with a smart bomb, but it takes intelligence, finese and a steady hand to put it back together and make it work. ‘W’ is sadly lacking in all three departments.

If we can’t even get something that should be as scripted as post-hurricane relief correct, who can honestly believe that anything Cowboy Bush & his industry wonks are doing is something other than “flying by the seat of their pants”? Thank God for the professionals in the military that haven’t been replaced by a Bush lackey.

It’s not an accident we haven’t been hit in five years, he says? Unless, of course, you count the daily hits our troops take in Iraq.

Clearly, the administration doesn’t want us to count or acknowledge those men and women as casualties – except when there’s a vote to be had by doing so.

Jeeze, get a grip and a clue!

I am a 70 year old very knowledgeable Vet I do have a clue. And since as I am an Atheist, I sure as hell am any Bush following neo-con Republican.

First, anyone who does not know our removal of Saddam and freeing the Iraqi
people was both FULLY JUSTIFED and a very necessary part of our war on terror are EITHER very ignorant of SUFFICENT facts OR they are just TOO
STUPID to be able to UNDERSTAND the FACTS!

The BAD GUYS WANT TO KILL YOU, YOUR LOVED ONES AND ANYONE ELSE WHO DOES NOT SUPPORT THEIR GOALS!

Hitler wrote a book and laid out his plans. MOST people where too clueless to pay attention and WWII resulted.

Well Children, the Bad Guys have also laid out plans and they pose more of a threat than Hitler ever did!

There are OVER 100,000,000 who are willing to joining their cause.

Al Quada’s LONG RANGE plans are to first, with the help of Iran (which they are geting a lot of) establish a base in Iraq, then take over Pakistan and their Atomic weapons. then the entire area, the whole hemisphere and then this hemisphere. After that is accomplished, they intend to install a world wide TALIBAN type of government.

And you are worried about our intelligence services intercepting some INTERNATIONAL phone calls? Get your heads out of your asses & start paying attention to what is going on in the REAL World!

Those who do not work in the intelligence field have no idea how badly the US crippled its own intelligence gathering after the 1970’s. Without a complete discussion of the policies that were put in effect then, it cannot be understood how we set ourselves up for a strike like 9/11. Suffice it to say that it is obvious that some people in this country bear monitoring, and the sooner we get to it the better. There are bad guys out there. Do you want them protected until they kill you and your family? Does it really bother you that the government might listen to you talk to gramma as it searches for those bad guys?

I can not for the life of me see how this has become such a big deal. Spying during War Time is a very common thing. However, I do see why it is so big. President Bush is in office now, and that is the only reason.
Numerous past Presidents allowed this type spying for security reasons without FISA approval.
Bill Clinton allowed it to be used in several instances and no one challenged his authority to do it. So, my take on this is President Bush is beginning to look good in Iraq with the Elections,Etc., and Democratic Liberals and anti war supporters are pulling all strings to make him look bad. No wander we have lost so many Soldiers in Iraq. I guess the Democratic Liberals and anti-war people will next require a private investigation.
We can never win if even our lawmakers are too dumb to see what is happening. If a Democrat was the President, you would never hear any of this.
Whomever leaked this information to the Press should be tried for treason. It has really hurt our efforts wherever we have Troops stationed.

I am intrigued by the lame defense and irrational logic employed by the “shrub”/cheney supporters in this latest gaffe by the pinhead in the pale house in Mayberry, R.F.D.! Obviously the pinhead grew up a spoiled rich brat who always got his way. In his youth Mommy and DaDa bought him all the G.I. Joe toys so he could perpetuate his playground/schoolyard BULLY behavior. That was bad enough but now Planet Earth is his playground! No wonder he wants to go to Mars. There will be nothing left of the “third rock from the Sun” when he gets through with his childish games.

I find it ironic that he dresses in military “drag” uniforms, proclaims “mission accomplished” and goes to the another military base dressed in the “next uniform of the moment”.

It is also disconcerting that when he could have shown some courage, he refused to volunteer to share the burden of defending the liberty, democracy and freedom he claims to love so much.

Mommy and DaDa bought him a pretty uniform, a commission and flight lessons in an aircraft which would never see combat. He then skipped out of his last year of the “service” he swore to complete. How about them apples? I, as well as many other youths who did NOT enjoy “influence and privilege” were doing OUR DUTY!!

He, Cheney, Scooter, Tom et al and many others in his crime-ridden Party, have been laughing at those of us for years who proudly served. They always had “other priorities”.

There’s something terribly wrong with the system of government in a country which promotes a “C student” to the highest office headquartered in Mayberry, R.F.D.

All the promises of “restoring honesty, decency, and morality” to leadership of the country has collapsed with a humungous thud. No wonder this government is the laughingstock of the planet. No wonder third-world peoples are willing to take us on with spears, bows and arrows, grenades and all sorts of home-made weapons.

Those magnificent warriors battling for the promises of our founding Fathers cannot be praised enough!!!! It’s too damn bad that they are risking, and sometimes losing life and limb to protect and preserve those miscreants in Mayberry. I think the wrong ones are in the combat areas. The residents of Mayberry should be “over there” and be separated like the chaff they are, from the wheat.

I am reminded of three character in “The Wizard of Oz” who were also lacking. The Tin-man had no brain, Straw-man had a heart deficiency, and the Cowardly Lion was just that, a coward without courage. Even though these were fictional characters, their “real-life” counterparts are found daily on the airwaves and front page of the electronic and print media broadcast and/or published from Mayberry, R.F.D.

I also find it ironic that, while our troops are fighting to bring liberty, democracy and freedom to another country we are losing the very same thing in this country. This is happening because a handful of pols want to destroy the very same form of government promised to us by our forebearers when they pledged their “lives, fortunes and sacred honors” to give future generations freedom from Kings, Princes and despots forever.

Allow me to remind those who are convinced that “old age and treachery will overcome youthful folly every time”. Old age only means one is closer to the embalming fluid cocktail which all must someday imbibe. Age does not necessarily impart wisdom–it’s just as easy to be considered “an old fool” as well as “a young whippersnapper, wise-ass! The difference is the “old fool” is likely to have proven to be of insufficient intellectual to capacity to “see the light”!

Good-bye and good luck, America. The darkness is upon us!! May God help and guide us all!

Duh! don’t these idiots know that the enemy knows what we are doing? Bush and his “gang” seem to think they are stupid. They keep bragging about intersepting plots, but how many has been put out there? They are bideing their time, just like they did between the attacks on the trade towers. If anyone thinks they are safer because Bush has been “spying”, had better wake up and smell the coffee. My late Husband spent 20 years in the Navy defending his country, then died two years after he retired. He was a faithful sailor and loved his job. It really ticks me off to think how pious George Bush is about his so-called service. It also chaps me to see him put on a uniform. God Bless and help us all.

    Kill Qoutient too Low?

Apparently we did not lose enough good souls on 9-11 for some. Unfortunately it will take another, bigger hit by terrorists to wake up most of this country. Best relocate away from potential targets and get ready to help those naive or risk taking unfortunates that fall prey to the next big hit.

  9. Hoku says:

It wasn’t a lack of intel that led to 911. It was a lack of resolve and willingness to risk one’s career, by politicians and Federal employees, in standing up for what they believed was true. The warnings were there, just ignored. The so called Patriot Act is the most unpatriotic legislation ever passed by an American Congress. This flap over domestic surveil by NSA is yet another example of the Bush admin trampling on the Constitution as they lead this country down the rosy path to neofascism.

  10. Randy Harwell says:

The fact that the NSA has been collecting intel on people living in the U.S. only gives credence to the fact that terrorists have infiltrated our sieve-like borders for years. As Pogo is quoted saying, “I have seen the enemy and it is US!”.
Another famous quote says, “Those who willingly trade liberty for peace deserve neither”. And lastly, remember that “Freedom is NOT Free”. Stay Alert, Stay Low, Stay Alive!

When the war on terror is “won”, picture whom that technology will be directed at…
Of course, anyone who opposes the policy of the appointed government can be considered a “terrorist”, right?
Too bad there’s no more second amendment to stand up to tyranny with.
You gave away your freedom for the promise of security America… shame!

  14. Barry Hughes says:

Re “spying”…I think George Bush should get a medal and we should all be happy that we have NSA on our side. I think the sniping and leaks should stop…we are at war.

  15. Walter says:

I would like to say that, like it or not, this is a problem beyond Democrat/Republican/Independent. The only way to solve it is tell these politicians that party politics and position jockeying is forbidden or they will lose their precious jobs altogether. When politicians give up all of our freedoms then we won’t have a need for politicians anyway.

Our freedoms are taken too lightly by gungho blind followers of people with more scary intentions. No freedom should be freely given up.
We already have countless laws on the books to deal with bad guys of all kinds and we already have a good system in place. Trouble is the people using it not the lack of it.

We have seen too little effort to hold the good old boys of either party or the CIA/FBI responsible for their failures of 9/11 and other episodes. None seem to have the honor required for their jobs. Fighting between parties on any level including the man on the street gives in to the divide and conquer tactics being used by terrorists and politicians alike.

Further, I am not a hate monger but I apologize to no one for being an American. I apolgize to no one for being non Muslim and if Muslims really want to live in peace then please turn in or take out your terrorists.

  16. NONE says:

You all talk about monitoring those that kill, those that criple the US, those that do damage and break the law. YOu support the monitoring of everyone, innocent and guilty. Well have you ever stopped to think about what they are doing to prevent small criminal acts? For instance, a group of people talk on the phone every day for a week planning a bank robbery where they can get away with a few million. Does the NSA do anything to prevent this…..NO! What do the bank robbers do with the money they steal? Do they use it to fund terrorists? Feed their families? Or just have it to feel rich? What about the gang members that call each other to say where the next drive-by is? Are they stopped…..NO!

When you talk about everyone being monitored to stop those that will bring harm to the US and the people who live here, stop and think to yourself, “Are we being fully protected by having everyone monitored?” The answer to that question is obviously, “NO we are not.” Because if we were being fully protected against those that are terrorists, and terrorists in the Oath that you take when you join the military states, “both foreign AND DOMESTIC”, then we would have far lower crime rates than what we have now.

We lose more people here in the US to everyday killings that we fail to consider. We have lost more people this year to car accidents and gang-related killings than we have in Iraq and Desert Storm COMBINED!

When I took the military oath, I swore to uphold the constitution and defend our country and beliefs from terrorists both foreign and domestic. So obviously my look on this subject may be biased. BUT I do bring to light some good facts.

So I ask you, “Is the monitoring of everyone really helping to protect this country from both foreign and domestic terrorism?”

  17. Timothy May says:

Every nation on earth has intelligence-gathering capability: humint, and machine observation. Machines do not analyze, they merely collect as they are designed to and programmed by human beings. Machines don’t always reliably separate the wheat from the chaff. Electronic eavesdropping requires trained personnel to analyze the data. Those analysts are bottom feeders. They are paid to render an accurate objective technical analysis, not make decisions on what to do with what has been discovered. At some point in the upper chain of command, the political will overtake the technical aspects of the data. Given the necessity for security; given that Congress couldn’t keep a secret unless it bought votes; given the necessity to move fast in anti-terror operations; given the chain of command and Congressional oversight; a vital piece of intelligence information in the American system has a steep and rocky path to travel before it can be put to use in a timely fashion.
What shall we say then? That any mistake made by a machine should trigger a mandate to shut the whole thing down, because we “fear” the man at the top? Far from triggering fear of the president, which is the sole intent of the media and its political arm the Democratic Party, a mistake made by a machine should cause us to be thankful that at least the technical end of the system is doing its job. The analysts are doing their job. And I would be willing to make a bet that what few “mistakes” are being made seldom leave the confines of the analysis center. More to the point: the entire process of vetting begins with the first supervisor in the chain of command. If that first supervisor saw something that had twigged the interest of an analyist, and that piece of information made its way to the point where it required a court order and/or Congressional oversight, and was perhaps leaked to the press, it must have been damned important, regardless of who had been observed.
The system works, and I for one would rather have it make a domestic mistake and let the system vet it out, than miss something vital related to nailing a terrorist operation. That was Carter’s conclusion; Reagan, Bush, and Clinton as well. Ole 43, though, we can’t let him have this toy ‘cause he’s a liar, a power-monger, and a REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT. 9-11? Never heard of it.

  18. Ken Burrows says:

In the future I would hope all media remembers the WWII slogan “Loose Lips Sink Ships” and check with the NSA or the White House before blowing the cover on an operation. That includes this medium!

  19. Les H says:

The problem with spying internally is multifold.
The door is open to limit freedom of communications through intimidation and tracking.
The machine now does some of the evaluation.
The software is never going to be correct in its assessment because the biases applied are sometimes inherent in the algorithms, buried in the order of evaluation, the datasources, the bias to the information chosen vs the data ignored, and based upon a spider like process of relationships that are beyond comprehension to a single individual.

The power of such technology is not fully understood even by those implementing the software, and the few who do understand it are considered the “lunatic fringe nerds” and no one listens or trusts what they say.

Finally, the liberty that we have in the US is wonderful, and most people want the opportunity and ability to live in such a free society. However, not everyone wants the responsibility of following laws, of honoring their neighbor, of taking a risk when things are less than ideal, or taking a risk to get ahead.

Fewer still want to lead in that process, and our media has done a good job of demonizing any leadership that is counter to their “feel good” policies, even when those policies are dangerous to our freedom. Those who want absolute freedom over their communications using the first amendment, stand hardest on removing that same freedom from everyone else. That cannot work. If no one can communicate freely with them, then their first ammendment rights are gone.

I absolutely believe that we have terrorists among us. I also absolutely believe that tracking them via these intrusive methods in our own country is counter to our best interest. I also believe that not tracking them in this way carries some risk. People will die, and perhaps I will be one of them, should these means not be used.

However, the terrorist threat is not new, and it will never go away. China built the great walls to prevent their terrors thousands of years ago. It didn’t work. We are building the same kinds of walls, just new means, and they won’t work either.

To stop terrorists, you must remove the top tier that is advocating the terrorism, but not participating. We don’t need a new technology to do that. Just some humint inside the organizations, and we even know in many cases who these leaders are, who they are speaking to, and why those people are doing the acts.

Using the terrorism to spy on our own citizens is a smoke screen, but I don’t yet know why it is being put up. Only the higher ups in our “two party system” really know that. And you can bet they are not talking.

    Regards,
    Les H

  20. Marcus says:

I am confused with tyhe problem of spying in the US. The reason that the attacks on 9/11 tok place was because we had “softened” our tactics against terror suspects. We need to take a hard-line approach to the new threats. In my opinion, the only ones who suffer are terrorists. I’m sure that I’m naive to everything that takes place, but, if you have nothing to hide; why are you worried?

  21. Timothy Ilg says:

It is a simple question. Was the law, violated? Yes it was. Our Constitution, which everyone, including the President swore to protect and defend against all aggressors, was violated. Did he have cause? Probably. However, he could have followed the law without endangering any of his goals. He simply chose to ignore it. Unless he was given bad counsel from his subordinates. I’m sure we are all familiar with bad Intelligence being worse than none. I’ve worked with Officer’s I’ve considered exemplary. Specifically, General Michael Dugan. But without a good second in command to keep him from making bad political decisions, stating “If I want to hurt you, it would be at home, not out in the woods some place.” That’s what happens. At any rate, the violations, occurred if/when americans were surveilled by the NSA, It’s not allowed anywhere in the law, and by the failure to notify said americans when they were surveilled. The fines that can be imposed could be impressive. Especially the jail time. However, if they paid close attention, doubtful, they would have destroyed the files in accordance with the law and denied any americans were ever surveilled. God Bless America and Those Who Serve!

  23. David Sligar says:

George Orwell must be laughing himself silly in his grave, now. Has anyone noticed how like his novel (1984) our present situation is? This “War” on Terrorism is a condition manufactured by George Bush (or his advisors) in order to keep US citizens frightened and willing to endure just the sort of spying and infringements on our freedoms that have happened.
Frightened people, as seen in the last Presidential election, tend to reject change. This Presidentially declared War on Terrorism could continue literally forever as long as the US Government has no other vision for America than Defense and Fear.
By the way, Ken Burrows, I for one want to know
what my government is doing in my name and with my taxes. You think criminal acts by the White House are OK?

  24. Walt Mace says:

Kind of like the hearings held in the 1950`s when Senator Joe Macarthy thought everyone was a Communist. No one should have this type of power over the citizens of this country, but than again, thats why we have elections every 4 years for President and every 2 years for the rest of the bandits. This Country was founded by Bandits and Thieves so use your Vote to control them, if you don`t vote for change things will only spin out of control and the little man will pay. [VOTE FOR CHANGE]

Could it really be you don’t give a rat’s ass about all this? You hate Bush! and these issues will do for now. After all my Michael Moorer Kool-Aide drinking friends, your lefist hero Franklin D. Roosevelt manipulated America into a war we wanted no part of, tried to have the owner of the Chicago Tribune -Wrigley-tried for treason for printing items about the war he didn’t like, was the first president to bug Senators and Congressmen, Tried to illegally tamper with and then change the Supreme Court when they ruled against his policies, and finally the big ONE. He illegally interned Japanese-Americans and also confiscated their property. Then you have Truman Nuking Japan. Truman getting the US involved in Korea. Kennedy getting us involved in Vietnam. And finally Johnson misleading the American Public into believing US warships had been fired upon in the Gulf Of Tolkin ; thus the Gulf Of Tolkin Resolution, which lead to committment of 500,000 troops and America taking over the the fightin of the war. History doesn’t lie and most oftens repeat it’s self. So, please when you spew your half-baked ideas about how Bush is violating the Constitution, abusing his power, misleading the US into war, look up the facts first. Because, frankly, you look stupid and extremist to the rest of the nation.

  28. Robert says:

Mr. Bush claims that he absolutely has the legal authority and constitutional authority to abrogate the rights of United States Citizens and order their surveillance.

This claim he justifies under an approval of congress that allowed him to prosecute the “war on terror” and his role as Commander and Chief. In the body of the document from which he derives his “authority” it vest in him only to take any and all necessary and appropriate actions. The terms necessary and appropriate are not absolute; to the contrary these terms were included for the precise reason to provide a check and balance against the potential abuse of power that Bush has engaged in.

I find it very troubling that Mr. Bush would use the term “absolutely” in any description that would entail any authority. He does not have any absolute authority legally or constitutionally ever period. To the contrary, no legal or constitutional power he may have is absolute, and absolute authority taken by any person in our country over our country is an act of tyranny, treason and contrary to the ideals and values of freedom.

There is a certain terror and dread one feels when the chief executive takes it upon himself to be the law … to deign solely on his own accord who is friend and enemy of the nation … and it is too easy for such singularly vested authority to decide who is foe to himself is also foe to the nation, which Mr. Bush has demonstrated a penchant to do.

Congress has no choice, if it is be a legitimate representative body of the people, but to stand up to tyranny no matter how veiled or disguised, or even the appearance of tyranny no matter how subtle or benevolent, from where ever it comes, not merely abroad, but also at home, even into and beyond the gates of the Whitehouse. What else could be meant by “Homeland Security”? This is in the true interest of National Security … which may be decidedly not in the best interest of the Bush administration. The interest of National Security and the interest of the Bush administration are not necessarily the same, making the mistake of assuming that they are is folly that may bring upon us the curse of all those that lack vigilance when it comes to their rights and freedoms; and that curse is tyranny.

To some, the constitution is “piece of paper” … to others more euphemistically the constitution is “living document” (meaning its ideals and values are not truths that are self-evident … that they are mutable and can and should be changed to meet the whim of a society) … well not for me, I swore an oath to uphold and defend the constitution and the truths that are the frame of justice and freedom in our country are not bound to the whims of events, political culture, expediency or convenience.

Congress has no choice, if it is to honestly and diligently perform its duty to uphold and defend the constitution, but to at a minimum censure Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney from such activity or to impeach them for the ongoing abuse of power they seemed determined to defend and prosecute against our own citizens. It is not in the best of interest of our National Security to leave us (the citizens) insecure in our person, homes, lives or pursuits and to spy upon us. If even one citizen’s rights are not secure, none of our rights are secure. Mr. Bush cannot be sole arbitrator of which among us does and does not deserve rights. We should be careful of those that declare themselves our vanguard of freedom, and then tell us that we need to forswear that freedom to them so they can protect it. We have been conned enough already; don’t be conned even further.

This invasive abuse of power must be halted, before the legitimacy of our government deteriorates further.

To those Veterans as I am, and those soldiers currently in service … You are sworn to uphold and defend the Constitution from all enemies Foriegn and Domestic and to follow the orders of our Commander and Chief … it is not supposed by this oath that the Commander would place us in the dubious position of choosing between our loyalty to the Constitution and our loyalty to him … it was supposed that the Commander and Chief would always be the person most trusted to uphold and defend the Constitution.

If you find that you are more loyal to Mr. Bush than the Constitution and the ideals of freedom, justice, and democracy that our nation was founded upon (then IMHO) you are a defacto fascist … if you are more loyal to a political party … than to the Constitution of the United States … you may well be a fascist … if you hold dear to your oath of defending and upholding the Constitution of the United States and will die if necessary to fulfil that oath then you are a true patriot and an American.

It is sad that such divisions should be forced upon us … even in our own ranks brothers and sisters … but know I for one will not let our country regardless of who is in charge of it Republican or Democrat devolve into what amounts to a Corporate fascist regime … I will uphold my Oath … and I hope you will honor yours.

  30. Neil says:

“Naturally the common people don’t want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY.”

  31. Linton Inman says:

I have been reading all of the comments about the NSA and all the other things that the discenters have been spewing out and I feel that none of them really care about the security of this country thjey are afraid that they might be caught saying things that should not be said.\i think that the ones in highplaces that give this information to the news knowing it will fuel the fires of those that look for something to bitch about should be exposed a d fired from whatever job they have, to me it seems to be anti-american to expose the actions we take to secure this nation. Im a veteran and I was attached to intelligence during the Korean war, and I know that you do not broadcast to the enemy what you are doing to gather information. You may as well call them up and tell them you may be investigating them so dont say anything you dont want us to know. I think that a lot of the mess that is going on is caused by the fact that the democrats lost the elections. I was a democrat at one time, but in the last year I have lost all confidance in their ability to lead this country, or do anything elese except bitch about everything that is done by the party in power. I have alway felt we may not agree with the party in power, but, we dont run it down all over the world, as some of our dear leaders have done. Of all of the things being said lately I have heard very little said about supporting our troops, it seems that has been placed on the back burner so they can moan and grown about everything the goverment is doing. I feel just as strongly about our freedoms as the next person, but, I also know that we cant have total freedom and stay free. I disagree with all the talking and bashing that is going on, but, I will defend it till death for their right to do just that. I just wish they would think more about what they are saying and doing to our country while they practice their freedom.

  35. Electronic Harassment – Endangers Our Freedom, Our Families & Our Future

There is compelling evidence classified electronic and sonic weapons technology developed by the U.S. Government is now in the hands of hate groups and organized crime.

These covert weapons are being used secretly and silently to harass loyal Americans, strangle their businesses and gain control of their assets.

So long as this technology remains classified, responsible government agencies cannot protect American citizens, families and businesses from these threats.

See http://www.ElectronicElephants.com [1] for further details and lists of reputable resources and links describing the electronic weaponry threat and asking Congress to investigate and stop it.

How Did This Happen? – The U.S. Government does not build bombers or battleships. It contracts with outside private companies to procure products and programs. Most military research and development remains classified unless there are compelling reasons to make it public.

Some of this electronic harassment technology has leaked from the hands of these private contractors. The U.S. Government does not want to admit the threat exists or that they have lost control of the technology.

Why Is It So Hard To Detect? – Most bio-affective sonic and electro magnetic frequencies lie in the extremely low frequency range of 5 to 300 cycles per second which mimic and parallel the electronic functioning of the human nervous system.

Since there are relatively few legitimate commercial uses for these extremely low frequency transmissions, test equipment to detect and prove their use is not currently available in the market today for a reasonable price.

What Are The Effects Of These Weapons? – It is well known and well documented that extremely low frequency sonic and electromagnetic frequencies can disorient and disrupt human functioning, cause memory loss and confusion. Some frequencies can induce heart attack or stroke. Recent publicity about active denial technologies indicate they can cause pain, serious injury and death.

This classified, covert technology is now in the hands of organized crime and hate groups. The implications and impact on our freedom and future are horrifying.

  41. The D410 is very good if you want a portable laptop: it fits in normal bags and the battery life is good: better than two hours if you are only web surfing. The build quality is good, the plastic is strong.
The screen is a bit small so if I was going to use it for long I’d put it in the docking station and plug in a big monitor.
Performance-wise it is ok. I can play World of Warcraft on it but the frame rate is a bit sluggish, it’s not good for fighting.
Mine is over a year old, it is on it’s second dell d410 battery from http://www.batterygoshop.co.uk/dell/latitude-d410-series-battery.htm (the extended life one, good for five hours surfing or one hour warcraft). I would imagine that there are newer and better models out now.
