McMaster is climbing the ladder. He was at 73 Easting in GW1 and now he's CO of 3rd ACR. Very nice. Very nice indeed. Well, he's earned it.
I can't find any particular flaws in his CI plan, though it may "take too long", especially from a politician's standpoint. They like perfect yet quickly executed without any blowback to them when things go down the tubes.

I like that Global Gurellia guy, boy is he smart.
I just saw a BBC headline about a group in Nigeria that is threating oil prodution, and that matches exactly what he was talking aout.
seems like McMaster should be getting a promotion, the #rd ACR seems to be taking care of things in Tel Afar. Lets hope others take notes on what he has done.

A recent article in the NY Times focusing on the 10th Mountain Division talked about counter-insurgency training similar to what the 3rd Cav is doing:
It's a bit surprising to me that it took as long as it did for widespread Arabic training to take root in units being deployed to Iraq, although it's possible that it just never got as much press or that it took 'till now to gain conversational fluency.
And isn't it more commonly romanized as "Tal Afar" rather than "Tall Afar"? Or is it a different city that the 3rd Cav is in?
