Hez's 30-Mile Missile

Here's some more on those longer-range Hezbollah rockets mentioned in today's Rapid Fire:

DSC_0015_wa.jpg

Hezbollah called the rockets the Khaibar-1. They fell more than 30 miles south of the Lebanese border. A few other rockets have traveled this far, but it was still unusual, according to the Israeli military and police.

The rockets are capable of carrying more than 200 pounds of explosives, making them much more powerful than the Katyusha rockets that Hezbollah has been firing most of the time, Israeli authorities said.

American and Israeli officials believe that the rocket Hezbollah referred to as a "Khaibar-1" appears to be an upgraded version of the Fajr-3, a rocket that Iran has supplied to the terrorist network and that Hezbollah has used often during the conflict. The rocket fired today has an estimated range of 90 kilometers, which makes it the longest range rocket fired thus far. Officials said that it is still unclear whether the rocket is actually a Fajr-5 — which Iran has also given to Hezbollah — or a new model altogether. [The Jerusalem Post and Ynetnews both argue differently -- ed.] Hezbollah’s leader, Sheik Hassan Nasrallah, said earlier in the week that his Shiite group would strike beyond Haifa, about 20 miles inside Israel, which has been the southernmost city to come under regular attack.

One thing the weapon was not, according to Israeli authorities, was "an Iranian-made 'Zilzal' rocket, which has a range of about 210 km (130 miles) and would have put the Israeli commercial capital Tel Aviv within reach."

That honeymoon is looking less and less likely, all of the time...

Allons; As a Christian I pray for and bless Israel but the Old Testament teaches me not to trust them not a little bit! Fatboy Hagee wants war with Iran to protect Israel but fatboy does not understand God protects his own chosen people himself! The USS Liberty was a NSA (Jackass) spy ship (Jackass because they trusted their Government and Israel) that got nailed by Israel on purpose because they knew how far she went in the 1967 War. Both sides are to blame for this war but the innocent women and children of both sides suffer most! Great brave Warriors Indeed!

Good Afternoon Jaye,

Since you can only respond with pejoratives and charges of raceism I can only assume that you have no defenseable replay to my argurment, so be it.

I live in an area that has over 200K people from the middle east, hint they are not all "Dark Skined", in fact I would dare most Americans to pick them out of a group as being from that part of the world without any cultural identification.

The point that I was making right is out of High School Civics, and that is, that the people of Lebanon have permitted Hezabollah to come into there country and take over. The counter to this of course is that the Lebanese Government is not strong enough to kick them out. Hog wash, this same weak Government kicked out Syria, this argurment just doesn't work. Hezabollah has been welcomed into Lebanon and is part of the Government by popular elections.

The claim that Hezabollah is acting as a sergoat for Iran and Syria also is weak. With the U.S. in Afghanistan and Iraq why would Syria and Iran need Hezabollah? Surly not to reach out and touch us.

The only explantation that I see is that Lebanon welcomes Hezabollah into it's country and with the support of the Lebanese people, an organization who's only political goal is the destruction of the State of Israel. Israel has the right to defend it self and if "civilians" want to provide a safe harbor to it's enemy then they have no choice then to attack where the enemy is.

This seems to fit a pattern that has emerged. Macho Islamic fighter hiding behind women and children. To me the true heros of Islam are the women and children who shield there cowards.

As to the U.S.S. Liberty, I keep seeing referance to it on pro Islamic web sites, what does it have to do with what is happening today?

ALLONS,
Byron Skinner

BirunSkinhead; Remember the USS Liberty and the Sabra Massacre! Maybe because they have brown skin you do not consider the Lebanese innocents? The Israeli dead women and children are innocents too!

I believe also, that Iran is using the Hezbollah as a puppet. As with any terrorist cell, they are given three things, time, equipment, and a target. Unfortunately, their time is limitless, their supplies are nearly endless and pretty soon..nuclear, and the target: the U.S.A. The reason we happen to be the main target is the fact that we have the resources as well as the resolve to step in and protect the innocent. Sure, we're no angels, hence the missions performed by LRRPS in cambodia in Vietnam. We weren't supposed to be there but then again neither were the Chinese. All's fair in love and war? I truly think so. The fact that other countries just about if not as powerful as us such as China, Russia, and Japan aren't stepping in yet has left much to be desired. Other than that I feel that the immature abuse of power and lack of diplomacy, has left these extremeist with a teenager like lack of respect for their true superiors. Sure, they're equal as any other human...it's there actions that lead to the punishment they receive. As far as these terrorist "sucker punches"..well, we're bigger than they are, and our size guarantees us one thing...they're going to fight dirty. As one, we'll rise to the challenge and overcome until peace reigns again.. HOOO RAHHHH!!!

I could care less either way, the only thing the middle east conflict is to me is good television.

Nothing will ever change untill all radical religeous based governments are wiped out.

I say every time an Iranian rocket lands in Israel Israel should send a dozen toward Tehran and Damascus. Why screw around with their Hezbulla puppets? Ya gotta go after the source...

It's like a disease, unless you cure the cause the symptoms will keep reoccuring...I.E. Hezbullah, Hamas and all the other radical, Islamic based groups.
