The NYT piece is just pitiable. The author is unaware that the program was mentioned on the UN website, in full public view.
That ain't hardly secret folks!
He also writes: "Those two factors are really what bring me to this corrective commentary: ....and the absence of any evidence that anyone’s private data had actually been misused."
How the devil would anyone know if their information was misused? The rationale is specious. The author is simply tired of being criticized for talking about information that is in the public domain. He should be embarrased.
The Times caves, yet again.
